Having trouble posting or changing forum settings? The MG Experience www. Page 1 2 3. I'm looking at a Midget today and would like an idea as to what would be a fair price for that car. I realize rust is the major deciding factor, and will consider that in possible offer. I'm told it is running well and has no rust. It is a 5 speed, so I suspect it has a different transmission. It is silver with two blue stripes sorry no pics, I'll try to put some pics on tonight after I see it.
What do you guys think? But at 6k, i would expect a car in very good shape. Hi Steve, RWA round wheel arch midgets a a bit more collectible as they were only made for 2 years. Updated five speed box is definitely desirable, no rust could mean no rust to be seen. I would not offer anything before looking at the car in person or have someone look at it that knows about Midgets.
Might not be concourse, but it should be something that you can drive and maintain at the present level so that you can sell it on at the same price 5 years down the road. The key question is RUST. IF it is not, practically any attempt to abate rust in key areas such as the floor pans; sills or A-pillar is going to cost a ton of money relative to the car's value. Check closely for rust. Pull the carpets and check all areas covered by carpet. Get the car up in the air and check very closely for rust in the frame.
Check the suspension, too. Rusk is your enemy, check the car carefully for it. You will find a better example, if you're patient. Good luck, let us know. I have a bit of a hunch Price for 1974 mg midget this car. Obviously I didn't have a chance at the time to take a look at it before it sold.
Anyhow, the car is now being sold by an auction house. I think the buyer saw the car advertised what I believe for a good price and decided to purchase it for a quick turn around. Either there is something wrong with it, or the original seller didn't quite what he had. Or, the original seller knew exactly what he had,, and the new seller hopes you don't The above advice is good. Make sure you check the car out, or have someone you can trust and who is knowledgable do it for you if you are too far away I took lots of pictures, here are a few.
I would likely bring the car to a LBC garage to get their opinion, but am looking for opinions in the forum as well. I was only able to take it for a short ride around the block. It requires a new battery, but runs decently. Good oil pressure at idle.
Brakes seem spongy, and it whines somewhat in first gear, that could be normal, second gear sounds ok, and no clunking between gears. Grinds a little when going from neutral to first. Sign In or Register to view this photo. Here are some more pics.
I took a bunch more as well if required. Did you get the story on the 5 speed? Apparently it is a 5 speed. Not sure if that is factory or a later upgrade. Yeaaah thats the thing Steve.
They didn't come with a 5 speed. There are some pretty expensive conversion kits out there and some guys have rolled their own. But that being the case you may want to really dig into that and make sure it was done right I personally think that is the only reason I would pay so much for that car.
Edited 1 time s. Last edit at Meadow Lake, SK, Canada. Hi steve, Before buying my Midget, I watched the classifieds around Saskatchewan for almost a
Price for 1974 mg midget, and by the looks of it, 6K doesn't seem too bad for that car.
Price for 1974 mg midget watching the classifieds, it seems midgets can go for a little higher here than in the US, perhaps because they seem to be more scarce around here?
If you like it, and it has no rust, or any other hidden surprises, jump on it, because they don't come up for sale all too often around here At least in SK, anyway. Also watch out for bad rust repair jobs hiding under the paint, because that paint job isn't original. The 5 speed isn't stock, so I don't know about the first gear whine, although it
Price for 1974 mg midget normal on a 4-speed.
Also, as a little sidenote: If you don't want to pay 6K, or the car has some hidden flaws, and you want to buy a midget specifically, I might look in the southern US for a car. It has a freshly rebuilt engine, and almost no rust. For a Classic car, the import regulations pretty slack.
I don't know how the insurance system works in Price for 1974 mg midget, but here in SK, these classic cars don't require an inspection when they come from out of country, so there are no hassles there.
